This event will be held on the May long weekend 15 – 17 May 2026. The event will be hosted by the PQFG Henry Range located off highway 19 at 1245 Chattell Rd, Parksville, BC V9P 2Y3. The weekend will be a combination of a recreational Sport Shooting Sampler, a Canadian Sporting Rifle Match (Pone and 3P) and a Free Rifle 3P match. Applicable Sporting rifle and ISSF rules will apply for the competitive events.

Advance registration is required. The organisers may accommodate limited on-site registration but reserve the right to refuse any unregistered athlete.

What is a Sporting rifle competition?

“Sporting Rifle” competition is a uniquely Canadian event designed as an easy entry to the world of competitive target shooting.  It is governed by the Shooting Federation Canada (SFC) and you can find a link to the full rules on their website. In competition there are both prone position only competitions and “3-Position” (prone, standing and kneeling) events at 50 meters.  Sporting Rifle events (prone only or 3-P) are open to men and women, adults and juniors.

Equipment

One reason sporting rifle competition is popular because of the lower equipment cost, unlike a Free rifle, an athlete can be competitive in this event with a relatively simple .22 calibre rim fire rifle. The only allowable sights are aperture or "peep" sights. meaning no telescopic sights or other optics may be used on the sights with the exception of corrective lens as per rules of ISSF from 1.1.2017.

What is a Free Rifle Competition?

Free rifle events are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) rules. Free rifle events are open to men and women, adults and juniors.  This type of competition is also known as “Olympic Free Rifle” and/or “match rifle”.

Equipment

Free rifle competitors use a .22 calibre rim-fire precision target rifle. Only aperture sights are permitted, optics such as telescopic sights are prohibited. In addition to their rifles competitors will typically wear a heavy canvas or leather jacket to provide support to the upper body to hold the rifle unsupported (except for the rifle sling in keeling or prone positions). Athletes will also use mats and kneeling rolls to provide comfort; and spotting scopes (if the range does not have an electronic scoring system). For three position competitions leather and canvas boots and shooting pants will also be worn.
