Club Events

The Club has shooting events every week, all year long and we keep in touch with our members by E-mail so drop us a note to subscribe.  Our facilities are occasionally rented to other groups and will be posted via E-mail and closed to members on such occasions.

The 123 Shoot

The object of the 123 is to score 123 points!  Go over and you are out!  The format is 5 shots at a 100 yard range fired from the sitting position in 25 seconds, and then 5 shots at the walking target at a 50 yard range fired from the standing position.  At this point in the match you will be given time to score your target (using your spotting scope) and total up your score - here is where the math comes into it and you must calculate how many points are required to wind up with a score of 123.  The next target will be at 50 yards and is shot at from the leaning position.  Since there is no time limit you can score (through your spotting scope) each shot as you shoot it and update your total.  The last target will be at 50 yards and you will shoot however many shots you need to total your score up to 123 - careful now as the targets we use only go down to a "5" ring for scoring.  If your looking for fun, you can't beat this shoot, so get your rifle ready and come out.  It is a really easy (anyone can win) way to get a "TOP GUN" hat.

You Must Supply:

  • ear and eye protection
  • one hunting rifle (any caliber)
  • your own cartridges
  • generally a $5 entry fee

The Hunters Shoot

  • The Hunters Shoot provides great shooting practice and also good competition.  It's like a hunting trip, you bring your hunting rifle and a box (20) of shells.  You will be required to shoot 5 times at each of the 4 targets; ranging from 20 to 200 yards away.  The format is different every month and is always posted at the rifle range as well as E-mail.  The first squad (7 shooters) always start at 10:00 AM and your done in about 20 minutes.  Top prize is the coveted "TOP GUN" hat.

You Must Supply:

  • ear and eye protection
  • one hunting rifle (any caliber)
  • one box (20) cartridges
  • generally a $5 entry fee

The Bench Rest Shoot

This is a test of your ability to reload accurate ammunition and then shoot perfect targets.  We have no limits on rifle, scope, or rest, just bring your best hand loads and let's have some fun.  Bench rest has three classes... Target rifle (heavy barrel), hunting rifle (light barrel) or Rim fire rifle.  The format is 3 non-consecutive squads - 5 scoring shots in each (each round includes a sighting target for your fine tuning).  Ranges vary and are 50, 100 or 200 yards or a combination of all three.  Top Prize is a "Rifle Man" Patch.

You Must Supply:

  • ear and eye protection
  • one hunting rifle (any caliber)
  • one box (20) cartridges
  • generally a $5 entry fee

The Hamburger Shoot

  • This shoot is held with Rimfire rifles, normally .22 CAL.  The shoot format is decided by a shake of the dice just before the shoot starts.  Since the format is unknown you must be prepared to shoot in several different positions at different ranges and targets.  The possible positions include prone, kneeling, sitting, leaning and offhand (the moving target will not be used).  Ranges include 20, 50 and 100 yards and any rimfire hunting rifle regardless of sights can be used.  Cost to shoot is generally $5 plus a package of thawed ground wild game meat which will be turned into lunch for us all by the people in the first squad.

"If last year was one of THOSE years, let us know and we will find a package of wild game meat for you"

You Must Supply:

  • ear and eye protection
  • one Rimfire rifle
  • one box (20) cartridges
  • generally $5 entry fee

The .22 Rimfire Rifle Shoot

This shoot is an informal hunters shoot intended to provide an opportunity for rifle shooters to practice and enjoy a bit of good-natured competition.  The shooting is intended for hunters and target shooters.  Hunters get to practice with the inexpensive .22 rifle and ammunition and the target shooters can practice with different targets than used in formal competition.  Beginners and experienced shooters are all together as it is not a formal competition.  This event is held on Wednesday evenings starting at 6:30PM - indoor range in the winter and outdoor range in the summer.  The format is 4 targets; 10 shots each from prone, kneeling, sitting and standing positions.  Generally costs $3 - $7 each shooter.   If you do not have your own rifle, the club has 7 target .22 CAL rifles and ear protection for you to use at these matches, but you must supply the ammo.

  • pistol
  • 20 cartridges
  • generally $3 entry fee

The Trap Shoot

The Trap shoot is held every Sunday at noon, and costs generally $4 a round (25 shots).  New shooters will be briefed prior to shooting or we can have  a private session upon request.

  • ear and eye protection

  • 25 shells
  • generally $4 entry fee

Fishing

A core group of avid fishers has recently revived and re-emphasized the "ROD" part of our club's name by exploring fly-casting, tying flies, and other related fishing skills and pursuits.  Various discussions on all aspects of fishing with special emphasis on the art of fly fishing are held occasionally.  As a group we travel to local lakes to test our skills.
